Giving thanks: The gratitude game is easy and takes hardly any time. While driving or going for a walk, start to name all the things you notice you’re grateful for. Hard to do? Ok. Let's say, for instance, if you didn't express thanks for something, it could be taken away. All of a sudden it’s easy to notice simple things such as: I’m grateful I can swallow, I have hot running water, or a pen to write with. When those things are gone, they’re certainly noticeable. Writing a note expressing appreciation to others can do mounds for them.
Giving of ourselves: Giving of ourselves can be simple as well. What if while driving, we let someone over in our lane when they’re trying to get over rather than speed up? What if we spent time playing a quick game of “I Spy” with a child? Or unloading the dishwasher even though it may not be our turn? Or if we see litter on the ground, pick up the trash.
For-giving: Forgiving literally means for-giving it over. It can be overwhelming to carry burdens on our own. If we can give it over to God or to our higher source, we help alleviate our burdens. To see how gratitude can influence our bodies, watch the video clip from my August 2011 blog.
